I love the light. It wakes me up in the morning and it stirs my senses. I love the way it warms my skin and illuminates the beauty of the morning. Light can be equated with life. Without the light we would not have life on earth. Light is a gift that we take for granted. Light is beautiful; from the early morning sunrise to the late evening sunset, the light allows us to see clearly.

Just as we live in a world where light and darkness are clearly divided, we also live in a spiritual world that reflects light and dark. The bible says that God is light and in Him there is no darkness at all (1John 1:5). There is a clear distinction in the bible; light stands for what is holy and good and darkness is a picture of what is lost and evil.

What does it mean to walk in light? To walk in light means to walk with God. The bible is full of pictures of light and dark. Jesus said in Matthew 5:16, “In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.”

Paul told the Ephesians that before they were saved they lived in the darkness. He said, “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light”(Ephesians 5:8).

Romans 13:12 says, “The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.” What does it mean to live in the darkness? To live in darkness means to be without sight, to be lost, and to live without freedom from sin and future hope. But to live in the light means that you have been transformed on the inside by God and given a new future and a new hope (1 Peter 1:3).

Jesus came to bring us light. “When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12). John 12:46 says, “I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.”

I’m writing this blog as a call to everyone who is in the darkness to come to the light and find salvation in Jesus Christ. And for those who are in the light, I hope to bring encouragement and comfort.”

More Verses on Light and Darkness

John 3:19
This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.

John 1:6-9
There came a man who was sent from God; his name was John. He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all men might believe. He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light. The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world.

John 3:20
Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. Who among you fears the LORD and obeys the word of his servant? Let him who walks in the dark, who has no light, trust in the name of the LORD and rely on his God.

Psalm 89:15
Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim you,
who walk in the light of your presence, O LORD.

Psalm 18:28
“You, O LORD, keep my lamp burning;
my God turns my darkness into light.

The LORD is the stronghold of my life—

in your light we see light.

Psalm 56:13
For you have delivered me from death
and my feet from stumbling,
that I may walk before God
in the light of life.
