Who is Jesus?
Who is Jesus? We Can Understand Who Jesus is By What He Said About Himself
He satisfies the empty soul
John 6:35, “I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me shall not hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.”
He brings light to the darkness
John 8:12, “I am the light of the world; he who follows Me shall not walk in the darkness, but shall have the light of life.”
He is the entrance to salvation
John 10:9, “I am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.”
He takes care of his own and He gives up His life
John 10:11, “I am the good shepherd; the good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.”
He claimed deity by using a name that God alone used
He testified that He existed before Abraham and He used a name referred to God the Father, “I AM” . John 8:58,59, “Jesus said to them, ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am’. Therefore they picked up stones to throw at Him; but Jesus hid himself and went out of the temple.”
He said that He existed before the world was created
John 17:5, “And now, glorify Thou Me together with Thyself, Father, with the glory which I had with Thee before the world was.”
He said that He and the Father are one
John 10:30, 31 “’I and the Father are one’. The Jews took up stones again to stone Him.”
He set Himself up to be equal with the Father
John 14:9, “Jesus said to him, ‘Have I been so long with you, and yet you have not come to know Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father”.
He said that He has the authority to forgive sins
Matthew 9:6, “But in order that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins:–then He said to the paralytic–”Rise, take up your bed, and go home”.
He said that He gives life
John 11:25, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me shall live even if he dies.”
He said that He is the Way
John 14: 6, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.”
He said that He is gentle and humble
Matthew 11:29, “Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you shall find rest for your souls.”
He said that He came to serve
Mark 10:45, “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”
He said that He came to bring a sword, asking us to choose where our ultimate allegiance will be
Matthew 10:34-37, “Do not think that I came to bring on the earth; I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I came to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law and a man’s enemies will be the members of his household.”
He said that anyone who doesn’t pass over Him is blessed
Luke 7: 23, “Blessed is he who keeps from stumbling over Me”.
He acknowledged that He is King, but said that His kingdom is not of this world
John 18:36,37 “Jesus answered, ‘My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, then My servants would be fighting, that I might not be delivered up to the Jews; but as it is, My kingdom is not of this realm. Pilate therefore said to Him, ‘So You are a king?’ Jesus answered, ‘You say correctly that I am a king. For this I have been born, and for this I have come into the world, to bear witness to the truth’.”
