Running From Disaster: Do We Heed Enough Warnings

1 August 2009 One Comment

December 27 was a day that many people won’t forget. It was the day a giant Tsunami wiped out hundreds of villages and killed over 150,000 people. The tsunami caught people completely off guard and it will go down in history as one of the worst ever natural disasters. Spiegel Online International reported the story and asked the question, “Would an alert system have helped?” The article states, “A tsunami early warning system — like that which has been operating in the Pacific Ocean since 1948 — could have warned coastal areas across the Indian Ocean region. Why, many continue to ask, was there no such system in place?” That is a good question. A warning could have saved many lives.

But do we heed warnings? I can think of several examples where many do not. For example, there have been many campaigns to dissuade people from using drugs. Addiction to drugs can be a lethal killer; and survivors of this addiction will testify that drugs had a kind of power over them that rendered them unable to heed the warnings of friends and family. Besides obvious physical reasons (such as addiction to drugs) why do we often ignore a warning that could potentially save our lives? I think we get so caught up in the events of our daily lives that we put “warnings” on the back burner and hope everything will work out okay. Sometimes fear of an event will cripple us and make us unable to deal with a situation. Therefore we don’t allow ourselves to think about an issue, hoping that if it isn’t in our thoughts….maybe it doesn’t exist.

Jesus warned his followers of his second coming and he said to be ready; to heed the warning.

Matthew 27:37-42
“For the coming of the Son of Man will be just like the days of Noah.
“For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark,and they did not understand until the flood came and took them all away; so will the coming of the Son of Man be. ”

“Then there will be two men in the field; one will be taken and one will be left. “Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken and one will be left.  Be Ready for His Coming. “Therefore be on the alert, for you do not know which day your Lord is coming.”

The bible says that Jesus is coming back one day. No one knows when that will be, but it is sure to happen. The question that I ask you today is, “Are you ready?” Are you prepared that Jesus will return. Are you right with God? Have you turned from sin to follow after Jesus?

When Jesus comes back it will be just like the days of Noah. Everyone was caught up in the daily activities of life. People were getting married, eating meals, and the furthest though from their minds was a flood. But when the flood came it took them all away. The bible says that when Jesus comes back it will be similar.

If you aren’t ready, then read the path of salvation to find out how you can be right with God.
