Jesus asked God to make us one with the Father and one with Jesus and the Father. Just as Jesus and the Father experience the strength of oneness, Jesus asked that believers would experience that same intimacy. Jesus knew that intimacy with God could not happen if our sin was not paid for. And that desire was the last thing on his mind before he was taken into custody.

1 Peter 1:3-4
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you”
