Ephesians 1:7

In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace.

Chapter 9 in John Piper’s book, “Fifty Reasons that Jesus Came to Die” talks about the forgiveness that we have because of what Jesus did for us on the cross.

When we put our faith in Jesus God no longer holds our sins against us because Jesus paid for them with his blood.

Why did Jesus have to die? Because sin is serious and God is a God of justice.  He must punish sin, so he provided a way of escape for us through the death of Jesus.

John Piper writes, “Oh, how precious is the news that God does not hold our sins against us! And how beautiful is Christ, whose blood made it right for God to do this.”

Psalm 103:12

As far as the east is from the west,
So far has He removed our transgressions from us.
