An Illustration of Sin

26 October 2009 6 Comments

I found this illustration about sin that is eye opening.  It reminds us that the grip of sin can be devastating.

Years ago the African people discovered a unique way to capture monkeys. They would take a hollow log and cut a hole in it barely large enough for a monkey’s hand to press through. Bait was then placed inside the log. When the monkey discovered the bait he would squeeze through his hand and clench his find. But with a clenched fist the monkey could not bring out his hand or the bait. That’s when the captors moved in and apprehended the monkey. The monkey was captured because it refused to turn loose of its desire.

How often to do we refuse to let go of our sin, only to find that holding onto it is the reason we are captured and brought down?

I found this illustration from Pulpit Today, which also has some great information on dealing with sin in our lives.

That is a great picture and an analogy on our sins.Alot of Christians believe that as long as they are saved they can still live in their sins. They are not looking for true salvation, but they are looking for insurance from hell.I believe that they have bought into Satans lie. There are some Christian who are truly saved but they struggle in their sins. They would like to get rid of that sin,but they keep praying to God to take away that sin. They want out of that bondage of sin.

Thanks for your comment, Michael. You are absolutely right. It is sad when someone thinks they are saved, yet their life does not reflect that. My hope is that they will examine themselves and turn to Christ. I appreciate your thoughts.
